Employee Recognition Program

Recognition is positive reinforcement in the form of acknowledgement and appreciation, that is
1) immediate,
2) tailored to the individual or team, and
3) meets the DGS Mission of Service, Solutions, and Success.

Recognition has proven to be a powerful and effective management tool. With employee recognition, you can develop a culture of teamwork and a desire for improvement. The Department of General Services is striving to be "Customer Focused and Results Driven" in the delivery of all our services. To assist us in these efforts the DGS recently expanded our departmental awards program. The following describes the various award programs offered by DGS.

Program Policy and Goals

It  is  the  policy  of  DGS  to  ensure  all   deserving employees are acknowledged in the fashion best suited to the efforts or accomplishments that further the mission of the organization.

It is the goal of the Training and Performance Enhancement Section (TPES) to provide a comprehensive employee recognition program that incorporates both formal and informal awards.

Merit Awards

Merit Awards are for adopted employee suggestions that improve state operations. Employees are encouraged to submit suggestions not just within their own department, but also for their ideas pertaining to other state departments. Awards can be for improved procedures, improved safety or tangible benefits based on cost savings. Employee suggestions that pertain only to their department will submit their suggestion to their departmental Merit Award Administrator. If an employee has a suggestion that pertains to a specific state agency other than their own the suggestion may be submitted directly to the agency. All employee suggestions that may impact more than one state agency are sent to the Merit Award Board, at the Department of Personnel Administration (DPA). Employee suggestions can be submitted using Employee Suggestion form STD.645.
